Storyboard Text

  • Nick Carraway
  • Physical Appearance: Because he is the narrator, we don't hear much about his appearance.
  • Relationships: Nick is Gatsby's neighbor and Daisy's cousin. The relationships with the other characters branch from these two.
  • Traits: Nick is observant, laid back, thoughtful, and an honest narrator.
  • Gatsby
  • Physical Appearance: Through the first two chapters we don't hear about Gatsby's physical appearance.
  • Traits: From what we hear in the first two chapters, Gatsby appears mysterious and is also said to throw lavish parties.
  • Relationships: Gatsby is Nick's neighbor, and some other characters have said they have attended some of his parties.
  • Daisy Buchanan
  • Relationships: Daisy is the narrator's cousin, and she is married to Tom Buchanan.  She is friends with Jordan Baker, and she knows Gatsby through his parties.
  • Traits: Daisy is fragile, self-centered, and kind of shallow, but these might be a result of her being hurt before.
  • Physical Appearance: Daisy is potrayed as dainty, and pale with dark hair.
  • Background: Nick is form a wealthy family in from a Minnesota, and he attended Yale then fought in WWI.  After returning he chose to move to New York to learn the bond business.
  • Tom Buchanan
  • Physical Appearance: Tom is a muscular aggressive looking guy who always appears to be leaning forward.
  • Background: We don't know much about Gatsby's background yet, except that he is said to have inherited wealth.
  • Jordan Baker
  • Physical Appearance: Jordan is shown to be slender, athletic, and has blond hair and has tan skin as opposed to Daisy's.
  • Background: We know that Daisy is married to Tom, and they have a child together, but Tom has been abusive and has has affairs.
  • Myrtle Wilson
  • Physical Appearance: Myrtle's physical appearance is described as stout and thick, while showing little beauty but great vitality. 
  • Traits: When first meeting her, Myrtle appears to be materialistic, but we don't know much about her.
  • Background: Tom attended Yale University and played football there. He is also married to Daisy and has a child with her. He is known for being abusive and having affairs.
  • Traits: Tom is aggressive and dominant, and he is also shown to be ignorant.
  • Relationships: Tom is Daisy's husband, but he is cheating on her with Daisy.
  • Background: All we know about Jordan's background is that  she grew up in a white neighborhood in Louisville. 
  • Traits: Jordan is shown to be sort of cynical, and we can also see that she is athletic.
  • Relationships: Jordan is friends with Daisy, and it also appears that she dislikes Tom.
  • Background: Myrtle expresses her regret for marrying her husband, and has also said that she met Tom on the train.
  • Relationships: Myrtle is in a relationship with Tom, but doesn't really have relationships with the other main characters at this point.
