  • The Boston Massacre
  • The British government left thousands of soldiers in the colonies to protect the colonists after the French and Indian war.The British were afraid that Native Americans of Spanish settlers in Florida might attack the colonies.The Quartering act ordered colonists to provide "quarters" for the British soldiers.
  • The Boston Tea Party
  • Britain needed money for the soldiers that remained in America. Many British leaders thought that the colonists should help pay for the troops who were protecting them. In 1765, Parliament passed a new tax law called the stamp act.
  • The Intolerable Acts
  • In 1770, the colonists were still angry that British soldiers were living in there towns and cities. They thought the soldiers were rowdy and rude. As time went on, the relationship between the soldiers and the colonists became worse.
  • After the Boston Massacre, the British government repealed all of the unpopular taxes on the colonists, except the tax on tea. The colonists loved tea, but many refused to buy it from Britain. To save the company, Parliament passed the Tea Act in 1773.
  • After the Boston Tea  Party, Parliament decided to punish the colonists by passing several new laws. These laws were so harsh that many colonists said they could not accept them. They called the laws Intolerable Acts.
