  • Longhorns were perfectly suited for life in texas. They could endure hot weather as well as cold weather. They could survive on very little water and they ate prickly pear cactus during droughts. There was a common disease called ‘’Texas Fever” and the Longhorn was immune to it.There long legs allowed them to travel long distances and their horns protected them from mountain lions,Wolves, and other predators.
  • How did the Spindletop oil boom affect the local economy and national oil prices? With giant quantities of oil being produced the supply outpaced the national demand. By 1902 oil prices were at a all time low of 3 cents. The changes were part of the boom and bust cycle. The rush of many companies drilling for oil soon led to depletion of the field.
  • What are some advantages of railroads over other types of transportation in Texas? The states economic development had been slowed by its transportation problems. Because of that moving people and goods were expensive and time consuming.Railroads were fast and affordable to move. A day and a half travel on a horse took 2 hours on a rail.
