  • Esther Reed, recovering from smallpox, thinks of ways to help Washington's army. This is how she thought of and created the Ladies association.
  • I just wonder how I could help.
  • Late May, 1780
  • Here you'll see 39 women who are mainly the wives of troops, gathering supplies to send, and also sewing shirts to keep the troops warm.
  • Late May, 1780 
  • I've done it! This is how it will work now!
  • Here she is creating the famous Broadside she wrote stating that men and women are equal, and that they can help in the army as well as men can.
  • June 10, 1780
  • Would you mind to donate to our cause?
  • Why yes,I would love to! My son is in that troop.
  • While passing out the Broadsides, Esther and the 38 other women asked anyone they could find for donations, no matter their financial  class.
  • Mid-June, 1780 
  • How will I put this all into one letter!?
  • Here is Esther writing a letter to George Washington telling how successful she was with donations. 
  • July 4, 1780
  • I am Sarah Franklin Bache, and I will now be the head of this association for her legacy.
  • Here is Sarah Franklin Bache at Esther Reed's memorial ceremony, taking on her position as head of the association.
  • September 18, 1780 
  • She was a true angel!
  • "May she rest in peace."
  • You will be missed!
