  • One cause of the War of 1812 was the impressment of US sailors by the British.
  • We're taking you with us!
  • Americans did not like that the British supported Native American resistance.
  • You're crazy!
  • Our Native American brothers and sisters aren't going anywhere!
  • The British were constantly interfering with American shipping, which made Americans angry. Their economy relied on shippping.
  • Those bloody British better open up the ports and let our goods through!
  • Oh, I sure hope!
  • On September 10, 1813, the United States Navy, led by Oliver Hazard Perry, defeated the British. Perry famously said, "We have met the enemy, and they are ours."
  • Don't give up the ship!
  • The death of Tecumseh, who was known as the spirit of Native American resistance, was killed in the Battle of Thames on October 5, 1813.
  • Your fight is in vain! Die!
  • On August 24, 1814, the British set the capitol building and other important buildings ablaze. While James Madison fled, Dolly Madison saved many important historical documents.
