I am so angry at father! He wants us to move to Out-With, all because of his stupid promotion. He wanted to move us away from Martin, Daniel, and Karl.
I started to like it here at Out-With, but now we're moving back to Berlin. What will I tell Shmuel? He hasn't shown up at the fence in three days!
"I'm sorry, I was just looking for Papa. He went for a work job on Monday, but he's still not back...""I wish I could help you look for him, Shmuel, but I have to move back to Berlin." I say sadly. "Maybe we could play." Shmuel says, lifting the partof the broken fence.
Today, Shmuel is going to bring me an extra pair of striped pajamas, so I can go under the fence. We will finnaly be able to play together.I meet Shmuel at the fence. He holds it up for me to go under.
We look around. "It's not nearly as nice as your house." Shmuel says. We hear a whistle, and the soldiers march us into an airtight room. "This must be to keep out the rain." Even throughout the chaos that followed, Bruno and Shmuel still held hands.
Nothing was ever seen of Bruno again. His father found the clothes, discovered the hole in the fence, and fell to his knees, in the same spot Bruno used to sit every afternoon, in front of the boy in the striped pajamas
