Trial Of Written Libel
The Morrisites had wanted Governor Cosby out of England. They asked printers to publish an article criticizing Cosby that many didn't like.
A Free Press
While searching around, the Morrisites had asked a printer by the name of John Peter Zenger. He had agreed to print and publish this article criticizing the governor.
Effecting Future Trials
After seeing his published article, Cosby grew angry and made a court trial accusing Zenger of libel writing. After winning his trial, it was made that if work was not libel it shouldn't be illegal.
Lasting For Centuries
After his trial, John Peter Zenger had not guilty and was released from arrest. This had changed the minds of many and was big news even in England.
Zenger's trial had affected many in the future. It allowed for people accused of libel work to more likely win. The trial also allowed for freedom of the press.
Even though many years have passed, Peter Zenger's trial has still helped many. Freedom of the press has allowed for years for people to publish their information or opinions.
