  • 1939 Invasion of Poland
  • 1940 Blitzkrieg
  • Austria was German-speaking and Sudetenland was filled with ethnic Germans. Hitler wanted to bring all Germans under his rule in one place. This is important because it was an act of appeasement, and the gain of more land gave him more power to rule.
  • 1941 Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
  • A week after the Nazi-Soviet Pact, German forces invaded Poland. This was the same year Britain and France declared war on Germany. It was also the start of a very important time in history, World War II.
  • 1942 "The Final Solution"
  • This was an important event, especially for the Germans. It stands for "Lightning War" because it also ensured mobility and speed. It was a very useful military tactic that allowed Hitler to have a lot of victories. Plus, this was a way for Hitler to manipulate more territories he gained.
  • 1945 The Atomic Bomb
  • Japanese airplanes dropped bombs on the American fleet in Pearl Harbor. Battleships and aircrafts were destroyed, and over 2,400 people died. FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan. On the 11th of December, Germany and Italy, Japan's allies, declared war on the U.S. The importance of this was this brought the United States into World War II.
  • This is when Jewish were being locked up in genocide. This was a huge event in history because it's when Hitler took action and showed everyone what he wanted to do. This genocide of killing the European Jews became known as the Holocaust.
  • An American plane dropped an atomic bomb in the city of Hiroshima. This killed over 70,000 people. The next day they dropped a second bomb in Nagasaki, killing around 40,000 more people. This was important because Emperor Hirohito did something never done before by an emperor, which was surrender. Then a formal peace treaty was signed and after more than five years of fighting, WWII was over.
