In the Babylonian Empire it was unusually fair. Slaves could own money, have their own property, and even buy themselves out of slavery. Women were able to own their own property and money as well.

Hammurabi made a code in 1750 B.C.E. It was active till 1686 B.C.E.He made the rules to teach people to never commit crimes. He needed rules to govern unified groups. Upper class people got worst punishments. This was the case because the upper class had more money and power to go against him, and overrule him.

In Hammurabi´s code there were 228 rules. That meant it covered everybody´s situations. There was a punishment for every single crime. Every rule was very specific. All of the consequences were very extreme.
