In the book The sign of the Crysanthemum by Katherine Paterson, there's a character named Muna he goes through many things in the book that cause him to change in personality and I'm going to talk about the character development he goes through.
It reveals that Muna is determined to find his father after his mothers death when he sees a vision of his father in a dream.
I will have to leave your grave unattended while I accomplish these things. First, I must find my father.
It reveals that he's sad and ashamed that his name means 'No Name' and he wants to find purpose and find a name that people will honor.
How he hated his name.
Even though Muna is poor, the old man shows kindness to him and lets him stay for dinner. This impacts Muna further in the book where he become caring for Takanobu.
I have no money
He called. Then turned to Muna.
Akiko, we have a guest for supper.
The old man shoved him into the house
Muna rushes into a burning building just to save his friend Takanobu which he cares about. This shows Muna is daring and compasinate
All this irritation vanished as he ran. Takanobu was his friend. He pushed through the crowd that clogged the entrance.
He bound a pair of straw sandals and tied a worksman cloth across his forehead.
This reveals that early in the book, Muna was very poor and had no food or good clothing. This all changes when he starts to meet people, they give him food and places to stay.
