Louis Riel was a Canadian politician. And the founder of the province Manitoba. He was also a political leader to the Metis people of Canada Prairies. He led two rebellions against the government of Canada. He became very important.
The Metis sent for Louis Riel. Riel stopped the surveyors and told them to leave the Red River immediately. So he helped them protect their land because he knew they would be back.
The Metis set up a National committee to protect their right to the Land. With the help of Louis Riel, He became an important member of the committee. He was a member of a well known Metis family in the francophone community of St. Boniface. And was also looking into becoming a priest.
