One day, two brothers named Prometheus and Epimetheus created fire for humans. Zeus got very mad. He thought humans didn't deserve fire and he told all the gods not to give humans fire.
Zeus wanted to punish the brothers, so he chained Prometheus to a rock. Then, Zeus had an idea to make someone that Epimetheus would love die or get sick in some way.
Zeus got Hephaestus to make him a daughter named Pandora. He said that Pandora and Epimetheus would be together. Then, Zeus gave them a wedding gift. It was a box that had a key and a note that said, "DO NOT OPEN." Zeus knew that Pandora's curiosity would get the best of her.
I got you newlyweds a gift, but do not EVER open it.
Epimetheus, this is Pandora. She is Zeus' daughter. She will marry you.
One day, Pandora opened the box and that's when she knew she made a big mistake. Envy, disease, sickness, and hate came out of the box right at Pandora. She started sobbing and Epimetheus ran to her.
What happened?? Please, Pandora!!!
The conflict in this myth is that the brothers, Prometheus and Epimetheus, gave humans fire when they were told not to. Because of this and other reasons, Zeus was furious.
