  • “This was the best news I’d heard all day, my face nearly split in half from my giant smile.” This quote is important because Bud believes his dad is Herman Calloway, but when Mr. Lewis sad Bud kinda looks likes him he got happy that he looked like his father.
  • ”You’re all right, little man, you’re a tough little nut, I like that. Most folks your age would be bawling their eyes out if they got teased as hard as that fool drummer was stressing you.” This quote shows how shocked Steady Eddie was when he saw how mature Bud was being after getting teased.
  • “You have listened to the smooth saxophonical musings of that prodigy of the reed, Mr. Sleepy Labone! This was an event for Bud where he was so happy, not lonely anymore, and finally felt that he was apart of some a kind of family.
