Kevin Garnett grew up with his mom, an older sister and a younger sister.
His dad left him at an early age, which meant that his mom often had to work two jobs.
All his life he loved playing basketball. even though his mum and step-father didn't agree with him playing basketball.
He was always out playing basketball every free moment he got. but he only started playing for a team when he was 10.
He and his mom wanted him to get into a good college so he could go onto get a good job.
The problem was , he could not score high enough on his SAT and ACT to get a college degree.
He once got jailed for a crime he did not commit, which left a bad mark on his high school basketball career.
After this incident Kevin's family moved from South Carolina to Chicago, and Kevin hadn't heard if he had got a high enough score on his tests to go to college.
Because Kevin thought he wouldn't score high enough on his test's to attend college he announced that he was going to put his name down to join the NBA draft. He is only the fourth player ever to do this.
He announced this at a press conference that he held in South Carolina.
He now plays as a member of the NBA. He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and was then traded to the Boston Celtics.
He one one NBA title, one MVP and had various all-star appearences. He also played for team USA.
