Storyboard Text

  • Simile
  • Personification
  • Metaphor
  • "That he could hear like a sentinel's tread" Stanza 6 line 4. Simile is when two things are compared using the words "like or "as". The quote compares someones hearing to a sentinel using the word "like" so it is a simile.
  • Alliteration
  • "The watchful night wind as it went" Stanza 6 line 5. This is an example of personification because the night is described as "watchful" which is a trait of a living thing.
  • Onomatopoeia
  • "And a spark struck out from that steed." Stanza 8 line 7. The spark is meant to be a metaphor for that ride starting the American Revolution.
  • Imagery
  • "Muster of men" Stanza 4 line 4. Alliteration is repeating consonant sounds. M is repeated in muster and men.
  • "The twitter of birds among the trees."  Stanza 11 line 4. Twitter is imitating a sound which is what onomatopoeia is.
  • "On the opposite shore walked Paul Revere. Now he patted his horses side, now he gazed at he landscape far and near." Stanza 7 lines 3-5. The quote details what the scene was like and appeals to senses.
