In March 10 ,1995, there was a court case in Texas called the "United States VS Lopez".
One student named Alfonso Lopez bought in a gun to school and was arrested. He was charged for violating a federal law. Lopez was found "guilty" and was sentenced to six months of prison, including a two years probation.

His first attempted had failed and took it to the Supreme Court about this case.

The Supreme Court believed that the Federal Government are abusing this power (from the Commerce Clause). The Federal Government believed that the Gun Act was connected to the Commerce Clause.

The decision was a split vote between 5 Yes against 4 No. This is the first case, since 50 years ago regarding about the Federal Government Power. They made sure that the Federal Government are not breaking any rules & have a limit. The court overturned Lopez's conviction.
