  • Represenatives must be 21 years old and serve two year terms
  • Qualifications for both of them include being a US citizen, Ga citizenship for 2 years, and legal residence in their district for one year
  • Are you qualified?
  • State senators are in office for two years and they must be 25 years old
  • State senators are elected by the citizens of their state
  • The Lt. Governor is elected by popular vote but does not run on the same ticket as the governor
  • The Lt. Governor is first in line to take the Governors place if he dies or impeached. Also he does any duty the governor assigns him to. 
  • The House Speaker serves as the presiding officer of this legislative body he is elected by fellow members of the body
  • The Lt. Governor presides over debate in that chamber and oversees the movement of the legislation also serves a 4 year term.
  • The Governor heads the government's executive branch in each state also serves a 4 year term
  • Appellate Courts--review prior court cases from lower courts Trial Courts--lower courts with original right, power, or authority to interpret and apply the law
  • There are two appellate courts the court of appeals and the supreme court
  • For the trial courts there are five, state, juvenile, probate, magistrate, and superior court
  • Criminal law is when someone commits a crime and breaks the law 
  • Civil is where it is not a crime and the trial is all about money 
  • Both cases are taken to court
