Covey called his boss Hughes over to help him “ Hughes get over here and help me”. Hughes responded to him“sure Covey what do you need.” Frederick didn't like that Covey called Hughes over because this started out as a fight between Frederick and Covey and now it was Covey and Hughes against Frederick, it was uneven. While Covey held Frederick, Hughes tried to tie Fredericks other hand. Frederick then tried to tell Covey “ that's not fair you can't get people to help you.” When both Hughes and Covey thought they had Frederick, he kicked Hughes in the ribs like a baseball bat hitting a baseball.
After Frederick kicked Hughes, Hughes gave up. When Covey saw Frederick kick Hughes Covey started to lose his confidence. Frederick started gaining his confidence after what he did. Fighting Covey reminded him about all the other slave owners he had that whipped him. Thinking about that made Frederick mad and he realized he should not be treated like that. Covey tried to guide him over to a stick so he could use it against Frederick.
As Covey reached down to get the stick, Frederick grabbed Covey. Covey yelled for Bill to come and help him but Bill didn't know what to do. Bill left Frederick and Covey to fight by themselves. After hours of fighting, Frederick won and was never whipped by Covey ever again. Frederick learned that if you feel like you want something important you should go for it.
