Frederick Douglass was born in the early 1800’s. He was born into slavery and was a slave all of his childhood. Frederick never knew his mother or father because he was always working on the plantation. He worked long days and didnt get anything in return. Frederick Douglass went and worked on different plantations and for different slave owners.
Frederick had several different slave owners. One of the slave owners names was Mr.Covey. Mr. Covey was very cruel and treated Frederick very poorly. One day while Frederick was working in a stable and Mr.Covey snuck up behind him and tried tying his legs with a rope. Frederick was very confused as he fell to the floor. He was very surprised at that moment but then realized that Mr.Covey loved sneaking up behind people and scaring them. He remembered all the times that Mr.Covey snuck up behind him and the other slaves while they were in the field working and yelled from behind them “ha ha got you.”
Frederick then realized Mr. Covey was trying to fight him. Covey thought he had an advantage because Frederick didn't really know what was going on. Frederick thought that he was going to lose but then realized in order to win he had to get Mr.Covey back. Frederick got him back by grabbing Coveys throat. Frederick was happy because he thought he might actually win, But then Covey did something so unfair it made Frederick mad.
