  • Ahhhhh, that's not fair. They didn't' pass the law
  • uhmm, not really. Do you?
  • mmmmm, are you sure of how it gets done?
  • uhmm, not really. Do you?
  • Sure, 1. so basically when a law is proposed, it is first an idea.
  • then, 2. The bill is assigned to a committee, the purpose of the committee is to improve the bill before it gets voted on.  
  • Next, 3. the bill is reported to the floor, if the bill is passed by the committee, it is sent to the whole House of congress for presentation and vote. 
  • so now, the bill is debated and voted on in the house of representatives.
  • senators give speeches and debates.6. Next, the bill is debated and voted on congress, in an effort to convince people to either pass or to kill the bill,
  • 5. the bill goes right here, goes to the senate. committees hold hearings and make changes to the bill.
  •  And there you have it, now the idea proposed becomes a law. 
  • 8. Last but not least, the president needs to approve or sign the law.
  • 7. then, both houses need to approve the bill.
