  •  Galileo was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. Galileo was put on house arrest. He also offered support for the heliocentric theory. He discovered four of Jupiter's moons.

  •  Newton was born in England. He was a physicist and mathematician. Newton discovered the reflecting telescope. Newton’s laws of gravity also furthered the laws of motion and continued the challenge of old theories
  • Church vs. Science
  • Francis Bacon was a lawyer and a statesman. He was also a master of the English tongue. Francis Bacon figured out how the scientific method works. He wa a speaker in the Parliament.
  • Revolution's Impacts on Today
  • Copernicus was born in Poland in 1473. He was also a Polish astronomer. Copernicus discovered the heliocentric theory. The church's teachings were brought into question by Copernicus’s
  • The Bible , as interpreted by the Roman Catholic Church, served as authority for society prior to the rise of science. Scientists like Galileo were called to renounce or stop their teachings and reaffirm the teachings of the church or face excommunication. The church's political, social, and economic authority was on the line. The Church’s arguments against Galileo and consequences were threatened.    
  • All of these challenges to authority inspired the philosophers. Then begin using reason to apply it to the political environment in Europe.
