There are many ways to stop you.
While Cassie was walking, she bumped into Lillian Jean Simms, a white and cruel girl. Lillian was forcing Cassie to apologize and also told her to get down in the road. Cassie felt it was unfair and refused to obey her orders. Cassie doesn't understand the racism and injustice towards African Americans. Lillian makes Cassie realize that she needs to grow up.
When Uncle Hammer and the Logans were driving home, they came across a bridge that only went one way. Normally, African Americans would have to wait for the whites to cross. Uncle Hammer owned a Packard like Mr. Granger's, so he pretended he was a white man and crossed first. The Wallaces were shocked to see them crossing.
Mama and Papa were at the house talking, but Mr. Granger appeared at their house. He threatened to take the Logan land away. He also said to put on a stop to the shopping in Vicksburg and the Wallace Store boycott. Papa was strong and brave, while Mama was terrified.
