Or, he could've used the sun, moon, stars, ocean currents, planets, clouds and who knows what more navigational skills they had used back then. Of course, he WAS an ancient Polynesian! That sounds more realistic, to be honest. Plus, they were voyagers and Hawaiki might've had overpopulation and Kupe found New Zealand.
Mom, Dad, guess what I learned at school today? Mr.Tay told us in social studies who as the first person to come to New Zealand!
Yeah, who was it?
who was it?
REEEEE, GET BACK HERE YOU- o, what's that island over there?
It was Kupe, a Polynesian who came from Hawaiki (you can't find it on the global map) around the 13th Century.
That's me! A legend. XD
Hmm, okay, there we go. Oh, look where I've come to!
Eventually, Polynesians sailed in their canoes in the late 13th Century to New Zealand. They migrated here and that's how New Zealand got populated by Polynesians. Hey, how's it night time already?
Good night everyone! We've got more Polynesians sailing here tomorrow.
It is said that Kupe was chasing down an octopus to kill it for his home town, Hawaiki, because they had some difficulties fishing, and the fact of how long and far Kupe traveled, chasing that octopus, brought him to New Zealand.
