I wanted to leave because I wanted to be like my dad. I left my family and friends behind when I left to go on my first boat trip to go to the Grand Portage.
Im holding up fine but Its been rough since I left. There was no harder job then portaging their ninety pound bales around the places in the river that were too dangerous to paddle. Me and the brigade are not getting a long that well. My muscles hurt and I have so much more I have to paddle, and I kinda miss my parents.
We just hit the rapids we did not want to risk going in the rapids and tipping over and losing all are stuff so we just portaged. The packs were super heavy carrying up to 200 pounds worth of packs. After that we just went to find a place to sleep and eat something La petite showed me a trick to do too.
The first day on Lake Superior was perfect, the brigade decided we should go straight though Lake Superior because we would not want to waste twenty miles going around the shore line. Every wave had white caps on top of them and wave hit me right in the face and I swallowed a huge mouth full of black cold icy water.
We just got to the Grand Portage it took 6 weeks of hard working to get here. Charbonneau offered to show me around the grounds there were two camps. Then they walk up to see the Grand Portage its self it was super cool.
I decided to go home and see my family and friends when I first got back to Lachine I went to Dr. Guilliard's house and saw Celeste. I had to get going back to see my family but Dr. Guilliard told me to come back soon. The first person at my house I saw was my dad and then I picked up the ax and it felt good to balance the familiar hickory.
