Crispin escapes Stromford. He finds Father Quinel dead. Crispin Knows that he was killed and that he is being hunted. This event helps Crispin become a stronger person and realizing that he could be killed also.
Widow Daventry read the cross of lead to Crispin and it said that Crispin is Lord Furnival's son. This makes Crispin change throughout the book because he now knows who his dad is.
