#### Storyboard Description

Jeremy invited his friends in to have some cake. There are more people than slices left. What will they do?

#### Storyboard Text

• My birthday party was yesterday.  Do you guys want to come in and have some cake?
• Yes!
• What, there are only 3 pieces of cake left!  What are we going to do?
• NO!
• Wait, I have an idea on how we can have equal parts.  We will each have "Fair Share."
• Yay!
• We have 4 people, so we can divide each piece of cake by 4.  There will now be a total of 12 pieces, which will be our denominator. We will each get 1 part of each piece of cake.  We will each get a total of 3 parts, which will be our numerator.  We will get 3/12 of the cake, which is a fraction.  This will give us equal amounts and a fair share.
• This diagram shows that each piece of cake is divided by 4.  Each color represents a different person.  If each person gets 1/4 of each piece, they will get 3/12 of the total parts.  In simplest form, they will get 1/4 of the pieces.
• Fractions are fun.  We have figured out how to share 3 pieces of cake equally by 4 people.
• Yay, Fair Share!  You are the best, Jeremy!
