  • Before the Civil War, the Government left the western territory to the Native Americans.  But when the U.S. built the transcontinental railroad that transported supplies to the West, the U.S. took the Native American's land.
  • We're build'in a railroad and you two better leave.
  • So they left to a reservation which is a place where Native laws overrule U.S. laws.
  • The by taking the native's land the U.S.  gave the Native some land, but it was unwanted and there were no animals. The U.S. got all the good land with animals.

  • One of the main goals of moving the Native Americans in the U.S. was to make them more like white Americans. This was called ASSIMILATION.

  • ASSIMILATION is the reason that Native Americans had to go to boarding school.  Boarding schools made it so Native Americans were seperated.
  • 2+2=4 5+5=10 3+3=6
  • Some white people thought that it would be good for Natives to go to school so they could get rich and follow the american dream. Others thought Natives shouldn't be around white people.
  • Many Native Americans tried to fight against ASSIMILATION.
