  • Opinion: This case was very significant to our country because it helped through the long journey of segregation.
  • 1.State-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th Amendment. 2.Oliver Brown, a minister in his local Topeka, KS, community, challenged Kansas's school segregation laws in the Supreme Court. 3.In its decision, the Supreme Court reversed the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case, which originally upheld the 'separate but equal' laws. 4. he penned this cartoon expressing his dismay at the country's slow progress toward educational integration. 5. Brown died in 1961. 
  • The new chief justice succeeded in engineering a unanimous verdict against school segregation the following year.
