The "Remember The Maine" was an event where the ship The Maine exploded out of nowhere. No one was exactly sure of how it happened but word got around that it was the Spanish who did it. A big influence on why Americans blamed the Spanish was because of newspapers. Newspapers would persuade people to think that the Spanish caused the explosion. In the end, it caused a war known as the Spanish American War. Later people found out that the boat explosion was an accident and the Spanish did not do it.

The U.S followed this new policy in Asia and Latin America. The U.S also did not want to give any reason for the European nations to send troops to America.
