On her way to the bathroom, Laura felt the agonizing pains of her menstruation cycle in her lower abdomen area. Her nervous system is picking up on signals of pain by the sensory receptors on her uterus walls and those signals are sent down the peripheral nervous system (PNS) which act as a information highways to carry signals between the brain and spinal cord and the rest of the body. All of a sudden, Brad, Laura's crush come walking down the hall towards her. What is she gonna do with this stain on her?
Oh, hey Laura! How's it going?
In her anxious effort to escape the awkward situation she was hoping to avoid in case he saw her stain. Laura quickly tried to turn around but stepped on her own feet and fell, twisting and snapping her ankle on the way down. Laura, being the biology major that she was, especially in the skeletal system that held her ever-quivering frame, knew that it was going to be at least a closed greenstick fracture on her talus or even lower fibula. Laura felt the pain all throughout her leg resonating through her femur and tibia even though it may have only affected her ankle area. She was so embarrassed-and in pain... and bleeding. How could this day get any worse? Brad walks up and rushes to Laura's side.
Oh my gosh, Laura! Are you okay? Let me help you...
After rushing to the emergency room, Laura sat in the hospital where, as she suspected, was confirmed to have a closed greenstick fracture. She was immediately taken care of.. and given pads. Though she was upset by the series of unfortunate events, she was smiling through it all because Brad was with her the entire time. She could feel her heart and her cardiovascular system racing every time he asked if she was okay and felt the oxygenated blood running through her pulmonary valve and through her body and back through her aortic valve, passing both the right and left atria and ventricles. She knew her cheeks were red from the outstanding blood flow throughout her body.
As Laura waited to be checked out, leg intact, she walked with Brad to the front desk. She waited to be released, and all the while felt her endocrine system in full effect secreting hormones from her hypothalamus, adrenal and even ovarian glands. She hoped Brad couldn't detect her nerves and hoped his adrenal glands were just as active as hers were at the moment. Brad asks if he can walk Laura back to her dorm and she just knew her estrogen levels were skyrocketing. At the same time she was ready for a nap because her melatonin was coming into effect, making her sleepy.
