Many serfs and peasants were freed after they helped fight in the crusades. Knights left their family to go fight, and nobles lost their power. And Kings became even more powerful.
King John was forced to sign a paper that gave rights to the people that he could not change or break. After he died the next kings had to follow this paper too. This was called the Magna Carta.
The plague killed so many people. This allowed peasants to leave to try to get higher wages because of the labor shortages. The land that used to be wealthy is now worthless.
100 Year War
France and England fought each other in the 100 Year War. Joan of Arc was a French peasant girl and led the French army, that caused England to try to conquer France. At the end of it all England was bankrupt and France had control of most of France.
The governments reputation was ruined and the poor people were mad. They were made that they were still serfs after the Black Death and weren’t free yet. They wanted to be free and equal. The revolts were defeated and serfdom was not abolished. Although some of the demands became long term and hundreds were hanged.
3-5 Reasons Feudalism Declined
The Crusades made many peasants free because they fought. The Plague killed many people and allowed peasants to leave to search for higher wages. Lastly the Peasant Revolt and their demands helped lead to the end of feudalism.
