  • Matilda is very poor but all she likes is luxury ideas that she can not afford. “She had no clothes, no jewels, nothing. And these were the only thing she loved.”

  • Then Matilda got a invitation to go to a ball, but she got very mad because she had nothing to wear but ended up sweet talking her husband to buying her a dress. “Very well. I'll give you four hundred francs. But try and get a really nice dress with the money.”
  •                                              ?
  • Mathilde got very upset because she remembered that she had no jewels to wear, but then she remembered that she rich friend said she can borrow hers any time. “Chose dear.”

  • Matilda lost her friends necklace. “They searched in the folds of her dress, in the folds of the coat, in the pockets, everywhere. They could not find it.”
