Megan landed in a huge throneroom. She opened her paw, a small brown pouch clutched in it. It was a test! It was supposed to see if I would put myself on the line for my best friend... and I passed! Megan Thought, looking up and realizing a cat was watching her. "So. You have come to jepordize my plan. I suppose I will need to dispose of you." The cat snarled, his eyes narrowed.
You did it! Look outside!
Fluffy launched himself at Megan, his silvery, razor-sharp claws extended and nose wrinkled up in a snarl. Megan reared up, throwing her front two paws in the air in defense. The cat smashed into the brown bag, and green grasses sprayed everywhere. Catnip! Fluffy fell to the cold floor, his eyes glassy. He was trapped in the trance of catnip!
Megan landed, panting heavily. A trapdoor opened from under the blood-red carpet, and Scruffy leaped out! "Megan!" Scruffy cried, hugging her tightly. Suddenly, everything swirled around them, and they found themselves back in the bookstore. Megan had returned to a human form, Scruffy at her side.
I will never take you for granted again.
Mr. Page smiled warmly at them, now back to his normal state, his worn face a map of his long life. His hand rested on a dark-furred cat, sleeping soundly on his desk. "You did it! Look outside!" He praised, gesturing to the window.
Outside, people were looking around, smiling widly. They were all human again! "But... Mr. Page, what about Fluffy?" Megan began, but the shop owner waved a hand dismissivly. "Don't worry about him. He will stay with me, here, where he and I can enjoy our lives together. Fluffy purred deeply.
"It's normal again." Megan breathed quietly, her face practically glowing with happiness. Scruffy walked up and rubbed his head against her leg affectionatly. Megan reached down to pick up the small dog."Even though I can't talk to you any more, I promise that I am going to never take you for granted again." With that, the pair began their walk home.
