The King of Naples, Alonso, and Prospero´s brother, Antonio, are on this ship. Prospero makes their ship crash to bring them onto his island.
Prospero tells Miranda that he used to be the Duke, until Antonio overthrew him. He told her that he brough his enemies to his island to get revenge.
Ariel is a fairy who serves Prospero because Prospero freed them from the jail Sycorax made. Ariel serves him to repay him, and because they were promised freedom afterwards. Prospero is happy with the storm that they made.
Caliban is a native to the island. He once got along with Prospero and showed him the areas where they could find food and water on the island. However, Prospero locked him up after Caliban tried to rape Miranda, and forced him to become a servant, too.
Prospero orders Ariel to turn invisible and sings a song to lure Ferdinand, Alonso´s son, to Miranda. They fall in love, which is part of Prospero´s plan: If Ferdinand marries Miranda, they will gain power, being upper class again.
Prospero wants Miranda and Ferdinand to really appreciate their love, so he makes it difficult for them by accusing Ferdinand of being a spy. Miranda tries to defend Ferdinand but gets scolded for trusting a stranger. Prospero wants to have a talk with Ferdinand.
