Storyboard Text

  • Mom!! Guess what I learned today!
  • What?
  • I learned about the U.S Government! Let me tell you...
  • I learned that the founding fathers created the Articles of Confederation, but after a while, they didn’t work anymore...
  • They had a Constitutional Convention, similar to what they did when they wrote the Declaration of Independence, in order to fix it. In the end, to have people agree, they created a Bill of Rights and all the states ratified it or agreed. The Bill of rights is the first 10 amendments.
  •  Originally, they couldn’t all agree and two plans were proposed, the New Jersey and the Virginia plan. They wanted to figure out how states should be represented. Instead they created the Great Compromise, which creates a bicameral legislature. One house by population, another with equal representation
  • They also didn’t know how to count populations, they created the ⅗ Compromise meaning that slaves were worth ⅗ of a person. The Federalist and the Anti-Federalist couldn’t agree on the type of government. Federalist wanted central government, anti-federalist did not
  • Everyone was afraid they would have a king, or a sovereignty so they came up with a separation of powers. There were three branches of government and they had a system of checks and balances so that no one would have too much power.
