- The Enlightenment was a period when society saw reason as a "light" that exposes errors, or mistakes and helped to solve natural problems and make life better.

- I feel government was to protect the rights of people and if it didn't then the people had the right to abolish government or break the contract and create the a new one
- Jean-Jacques Rousseau
- I feel it was the government's duty to implement policies deemed beneficial for the general public
- Baron de Montesquieu
- I promoted the idea of separation of power and checks and balance. I admired the English system of limited government.
- Voltaire
- I opposed the government supporting one religion and forbidding others. I believed God created the world and set it in motion. Then he allowed natural law to run itself.
