The conflict is brought to you since the beginning of the short story. The main conflict is that madam Loisel is entitled and thinks too highly of herself.

In the Climax, Madam Loisel finally tells Mrs. Forestier that she lost the necklace that she borrowed and has been paying it off for the last ten years.
Madam Forestier realizes how poor Madam Loisel is and wants to help by offering help to get the Loisels back on their feet again but Madam Loisel knows better.
Madam Forestier wants to help in some way so She asks Madam Loisel and they work out a deal.
Madam Forestier got Madam Loisel a little grey kitten to keep her company. Madam Loisel learned to be happy with what she had and lived gratefully with her husband and cat though they never got rich.
Madam Loisel is the main character with Monsieur Loisel being her husband, and Madam Forestier being her friend whom has a child in the climax and resolution.
