We are doing our GRASPS project about the Civil War on Ulysses S. Grant and the significant changes he had on the civil war.
Ulysses Ordered William Sherman to go on a march and destroy everything in their path. This is significant because his orders destroyed the south's resources.
On July 4 Ulysses Grant won the battle of Vicksburg, an extreme victory for the union. This significantly changes the course of the war by cutting the Confederate army in half.
General Grant barely started before Grant was quickly promoted to a brigadier General and had command of his own soldiers. Ulysses managed to win the first major victory for the team bringing up the spirits which in turn helped them fight better.
Sadly grants reputation as a general was lost when he repelled an attack a Shiloh. Even though he won he lost many troops. This is significant to the war, because it was one of the things that he used to build upon helping win battles.
Ulysses pinned General Lee (an important confederate general) at Petersburg which is their final battle. Marking the soon to be end of a war. This battle finally ends one of the bloodies battles in U.S history.
