  • Many people followed the abolitionist John Brown because of what he caused in the pottawatomi massacre
  • If I am dying for freedom I could not die for a better cause!
  • The Raid on Harper Ferry Virginia started with John Brown wanting to get local slaves to take over and raid an arsenal.
  • They took over the arsenal on October 16, 1859. Robert E. Lee ordered marines to stop them
  • Slavery is wrong, that cannot excuse violence, bloodshed, and treason
  • They were surronded and many killed so those who survived ran to a firehouse. John A. Copeland was a freed black who died in John Brown's Raid
  • John Brown was killed for his crimes along with those who followed him. Many worried that his family and others would do the same
  • This caused the south to want to leave the union and pushed the country further toward the Civil War
  • South does not want to be in union!
