Hello everyone and welcome to today's lesson on "The Bends"!!
This is Anna and she is going scuba diving
But Anna has never gone scuba diving before or taken any lessons. She isn't even going with anyone!!
She knows not to go up too quickly because she can get the bends, but Anna forgets
All of the sudden, Anna gets the sensation that she is choking and can't breathe. This is because Anna has gotten the bends
Anna feels like this because when she ascended too quickly, the elevation and the density increased and the water pressure decreased. This caused the air in her lungs to expand, which caused for the air sacs in her lungs to rupture which could have stopped her breathing.
Another thing that could have happened to Anna is that when she ascended too quickly, the release of nitrogen from her lungs happened too quickly and bubbles formed in her blood stream, blocking tiny blood vessels. This causes joint pain and in more extreme cases, heart attacks, strokes and ruptured blood vessels.
Next time Anna should be more careful and not ascend too quickly.
