  • Victor gets to work on the creation of a second female monster. The monster draws close to Victor's workshop in Scotland to visit his mate after chasing Victor and Henry across mainland Europe and England. Victor smashes the half-finished creature in front of the monster in a fit of rage and shame, telling the monster that he will not continue. The creature delivers an alarming warning, saying, "I shall be with you on your wedding night." The beast then vanishes into the darkness. Victor is currently considering who the creature's next victim will be. Henry Clerval writes him a letter asking him to return to London and begin organizing a trip to India.

He lays down in the boat to rest once the labor is over, but the rising light and wind stir him up. The sailboat is pushed out to sea by a storm, and Victor finds himself in a dangerous predicament. He makes a sail out of his own garments to guide him to a town near the coast. "Surely it is not the tradition of Englishmen to treat visitors so inhospitably," he says, surprised to see the locals antagonistic to him."It is the Irish culture to despise villains," a guy responds. Victor is arrested and charged with murder, and he is transported to the local magistrate, Mr. Kirwin, to await judgment. Victor goes about his business in a calm manner.

Because Victor emerges around the same time, some people mistakenly associate him with a crime scene even though he was not present. At least two witnesses witnessed a big thing drop Henry Clerval's body on the shore and then flee. The local magistrate, Mr. Kirwin, advises that the entire entourage go view the body. "The human form could no longer take the agonies that I underwent, and I was carried out of the room in intense convulsions," Victor says two months after becoming violently ill. ." Victor is held in prison, and Kirwin sends a nurse and doctor to return him to good health.
  • Chapter 23
  • When the court hears of Victor's stay on the Orkney Islands, Kirwin mounts a vigorous defense of Victor and is able to secure Victor's release. Victor's presence at his Orkney lab at the time of the murder proves that he did not conduct the crime. Victor is taken home by Alphonse. The couple travels from Ireland to Le Harve, France, and then to Paris for a short visit.
  • Victor and Alphonse travel to Paris from Le Harve, France. They stop in Paris for a few days before going on to Geneva. Elizabeth writes Victor a letter inquiring whether he has another love interest. He promises her that he is ready to marry her when he gets in Geneva. Victor marries Elizabeth ten days after his return home. Victor goes on his honeymoon knowing that the monster's threat still hovers over him, and he has no idea if the monster would carry out his horrible plan.
  • The monster makes good on his promise to Victor, enters their chamber, and strangles Elizabeth as Victor is wandering the corridors of the inn where the couple was staying. When the creature retreats, Victor fires a shot at it, but the monster escapes unharmed. Alphonse is overtaken with sadness and dies when he hears of Elizabeth's death. Victor approaches a local magistrate and tells him the whole scenario. With the local authorities at a loss on what to do, Victor goes off in pursuit of the monster in order to wreak vengeance.
