  • Victims of the War
  • The Soviet Army invaded for power in Afghanistan and took over the government that was in the area.
  • Rasheed forcing Mariam to wear a Burqa
  • "Where I come from, a woman's face is her husbands business only." (Hosseini 72)
  • "There was heavy fighting in the West Kabul between the Hazaras of the Wahdat faction." (Hosseini, 145) This shows corruption because they could not share the power given to them by the Soviets
  • Daoud Khan killed and his family
  • "Hazaras were retaliating - killing indiscriminately. Often they'd been shot in the head." (Hosseini, 145) This shows that the war between the factions of the resistance and how their power causes them to kill anyone.

  • "Daoud Khan had been killed, but not before the communist rebels had killed some twenty members of his family." (Hosseni 101) This shows power because the communist party had become corrupt and killed innocent people in the Khan family.
