  • Person vs. Society - Mrs. Hutchinson vs. the tradition of the lottery. The town hosted a yearly lottery where the person who won it was stoned to death to insure crop growth and maintainence

  • Every person had to draw a piece of paper from the black box and had to open it when it was their turn.

  • Turning Point: Tessie draws a black dot on her paper.
  • The people remembered to use stones for the lottery. Each person grabbed a stone from the pile.
  • Tessie had to be stoned to death by the townspeople as it was part of their barbaric and dark ritual.
