Moses was born when the Hebrews were the slaves in Egypt and the Pharaoh was afraid of them as they might take over his country. He ordered that all Hebrew baby boys were killed at birth. To save Moses his mother made a plan. She his him in a basket by the side of the Nile River.
Moses sister Miriam looked after him until Pharaohs daughter came to the river to wash herself. She found Moses in the basket. Pharaohs daughter took her back to live with her as though he was her son.
Moses grew up like an Egyptian prince but never forgot he was a Hebrew. One day Moses lost his temper an killed an Egyptian who had beaten a Hebrew slave to death. Moses ran away. God spoke to him through a burning bush and told him to go back and save the Hebrews from slavery.
Moses went to Pharaoh and asked him to free the Hebrews but Pharaoh did not want to lose his slaves. Terrible things began to happen to Egypt. There were ten plagues and before each one, Moses warned the Pharaoh.
The plague was the worst. The eldest son from every from every Egyptian family including Pharaohs, died. God had warned Moses to mark all the doorposts of all Hebrew boys so they would be safe. Pharaoh was upset over the loss of his son so he let the Hebrews go.
The Hebrews knew they had to leave Egypt quickly. The needed food and had not much time so they took bread dough. Pharaoh changed his mind and his army wanted them.
