  • The earliest people had to survive off of hunting and trading. There were sedentary tribes that lived in one place and nomadic tribes that moved around a lot

  • The Louisiana Purchase is a trade between France and USA. The trade was in 1803 for $15 million.
  • Stephen Long
  • Lewis and Clark only spent 123 out of 8000 miles in Kansas. They went through the northeast area of Kansas. They thought the land was very beautiful.

  • Pike explored western Kansas and was not satisfied. He thought the land was inhabitable and was like a desert.
  • Long agreed with Pike that the land was like a desert. He labeled the land as "The Great American Desert" and he influenced the US government to think differently about the land.
