While delivering wine to Defarge's shop a barrel of wine drops and breaks. All of the people in the streets come do drink it off the streets. This is a great example of symbolism. The fact that people are crowding to drink wine off the streets shows how poor France is at the time. It also helps foreshadow the revolution that is to come.

The Defarge's are following through with the revolution. They kill one of the people in the monarchy named Foulon. Foulon previously said all peasants should eat grass. This is why thet put grass in Foulon's mouth. This shows how much the revolution has grown.
