French and Indian War or the Seven Year War, gave England all the lands south of French Canada and north of Florida. What a life be living in! Redcoats require citizens to follow the Quartering, Stamp, and Townshend Acts. These acts were proposed for Britain because of the debt Britain ended up having because of all the money spent on the war.
Men! Let's throw this tea in the HARBOR!
In 1767, the Townshed Acts were passed. These "acts" included letting taxes which consisted of glass, paint, all paper products, and tea. The colonists started boycotting British goods.
What was characterized as a massacre in Boston, was anything but that. On March 5, 1770, a rowdy protest broke out shouting at the redcoats to shoot. One misfired and then a mob became of the protest. In total, 5 people died because of this unfortunate event.
I am not a Virginian, I am an American!
Grab your weapons and fight!
The colonists boycotted the small tea duty peacefully. But a new law in 1773, sparked rage throughout the colonies. The Boston Tea Party was the way the colonists showed their hatred towards the taxes.
The Intolerable Acts were King George's way of controlling and taking away the colonist's power. Some of the things that were prohibited were the Boston Harbor, if British soldiers committed murder than they would be tried in England, and the privilege to hold town meetings in Massachusetts, was revoked.
In September of 1774, leaders from 12 colonies met together. It was where Patrick Henry said "I am not a Virginian, I am an American". The colonies militia was rallied together to fight the British. In Lexington, the militia lost. But in Concord, the militia, now with more men, surprised the British and led their country to victory.
