Fear and suspicion are destructive. First, For example, Les Goodman's car turns on when everyone's electricity isn't working. Not even Steves car won't turn on. That makes everyone scared and frightened. Everyone starts accusing Les Goodman that he's always been an oddball. A woman even tells everyone that when she would stay up late at night, she would come out on her porch. And sometimes see Les Goodman on his front porch looking up out at the sky. As if he were waiting for something. With that, it ruins their friendship because they don't know who to believe anymore. Second, everyone hears footsteps. And Tommy makes everyone believe its the monster. A man hands Steve a gun but he doesn't want to use it. Instead, Charlie takes it and shoots the figure. Once everyone found out it was Pete Van Horn. They blamed Charlie. The residents were suspicious of Charlie and why he was too quick to kill. Lastly, with everyone blaming Charlie. He gets scared to whats going to happen to him and blames Tommy. The residents believe it was him because he was the one who knew about the aliens in the first place. But Tommy was just reading a lot of comics. In reality, they were all just scared about what was happening but didn't want to admit it. So they blamed each other.
