Storyboard Text

  • You have been selected to be the next Receiver of Memories!
  • 4. Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parents or elders 5. From this moment you are prohibited from dream-telling.
  • Jonas was selected to be the new Receiver of Memories. He has to receive memories from the past, good and bad.
  • This is the memory of snow.
  • Jonas has to go to the annex after school and immediately to his dwelling afterwards. He can now be rude and ask any question about another citizen, he cannot tell of his training or any dream he had. Jonas can't apply for any medication or release. He can lie.
  • Apple? Banana? Which one.....
  • The Givers home was filled with books, comfortably furnished, and had decorations. None of these things are in any home in the community other than The Giver's.
  • Jonas?
  • On the first day, Jonas received the memory of snow and sledding down a hill. He also experienced sun and warmth along with a sunburn. 
  • The community isn't allowed to make any decisions because that can make people different. People can also make wrong decisions. 
  • "Seeing beyond" is a term Jonas uses when he sees color. Everything that is abnormal in the community is "seeing beyond".
