  • Patriots showed colonists they could fight and win against British.
  • Battle Of Trenton (Crossing the Delaware) Philadelphia to New Jersey  December 24-25, 1776 
  •  Inspire Patriot cause and reenlistment; big moral builder.
  • Battle of Saratoga  New York October 7-17, 1777
  • Turning point in war; France and Spain decide to join on the American side
  •  Harsh winter and low food rations, but influential  for uniformity of drilling and marching of troops.
  • Winter at Valley Forge 20 mile NW of Philly. December 1777-June 1778
  • The British changed strategy after failing to conquer a state in the north; looked to the southern states where they believed Loyalists would help them 
  • The War Moves South
